ORANGEVALLEY INTRANET SEARCH ENGINE
For a Windows 95/98/NT LAN

World Wide Web
The search engine can also be used on an Internet web site. The prime advantage of using your own search engine on your web site is that it won't show any adverts (other than your own) that spoil the professional image of your site. The search engine output can also be adjusted to have the same look as your web site. To do this, you will need to make some changes to the ASP file. If you are not sure how to do this then please contact us.

Unless you have your own web server with a permanent connection to the Internet, you will have to find an ISP that supports active server pages and access database support. A low cost ISP that I use is wwwserver who give you 250MB of disk space and full database support. They charge around £35 for two years, including the registration of a domain name.

It is unlikley that any ISP will allow the spider program to be used, so the way around this is to spider a copy of the web site on your desktop PC, then simply upload the database (orangevalley.mdb) to the ISP. You will need to upload the search box and the advobs.inc and .asp file, all into the same directory. Remember to create a directory called stats and place the text file into it to collect the results of any searches.

Your main web site doesn't even need to be moved to the ASP enabled ISP as you simply add a link to it, but you will need to make a small alteration to the script. Cotact us for more information on this. If you change your web site then you must remember to re-spider it and upload the new file.
